Is this the Pill for men? Elaine Lissner thinks so, and she won’t stop until it’s available in the United States.

A potentially revolutionary method of male birth control — a single injection that’s 100 percent effective in preventing pregnancy for a decade, and is accompanied by nary a side effect — is already in clinical trials in India and could be available here in just a few years.
A single advocate won’t give up until RISUG, the clunky acronym for “reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance,” is a Food and Drug Administration-approved option for couples looking to knock boots without getting knocked up.

Some American experts, however, are concerned that RISUG may not be reversible. Lissner hopes to see the product approved in the U.S. by 2015.

Thank fucking God. I am so tired of the only contraceptive options for men being a rubber sheath or a scalpel. Meanwhile my girlfriend has to choose between like fifty usually uncomfortable and always expensive options that fuck with her body, cycles and/or hormones. If the lack of contraception options for men isn’t a side-effect of this being a patriarchal society then I don’t know what is. It’s always “Don’t you get pregnant, are you on the pill?”, or “Don’t you get her pregnant, make sure she’s on the pill”. Of course if this thing has to work for 10 years and it’s coming out in 2015, then I’ll want no part in it since that’ll be my baby-makin’ prime.
But hey, maybe I’ll inject my son with it when he’s eleven years old, amiright?
Good times.
